What’s happening generally is why this year’s theme is Weird Pride in a Hostile World. This is a page about what’s happening for Weird Pride Day.
First, there is always an open invitation for anyone to share their thoughts and experiences relating to being (or being seen as) weird, as described on our front page.
Aside from that, we have five events confirmed so far for this 4th of March.
First, AMASE and Stimpunks are co-hosting free online Lightning Talks, live on the day. Anyone can sign up to talk for up to seven minutes on a weirdness-related topic of their choice. You can watch previous Lightning Talks in this Weird Pride YouTube playlist to get an idea of the kind of thing we’re talking about, but this is pretty much wide open.
Second, three separate discussions are being pre-recorded, and will premiere on YouTube on the day (titles and lineups may be subject to change). Once these are recorded, links will be added here.
- Writing Weirdness, with Robin Ince, Kate Fox, Joanne Limburg and Sonny Hallett
- Monstrous Pride with Surekha Davies, Elizabeth Ito, Sumita Majumdar and Nat Paterson, chaired by Fergus Murray
- Weird Wonderings with David Gray-Hammond, Bobbi Elman, Helen Edgar and Marion McLaughlin.
Finally, Helen Edgar and David Gray-Hammond are giving a talk on “Weird Pride and Neuroqueering from Liminal Spaces: Building belonging, advocacy, collective power, and
resistance from the margins” as part of the Neurodiversity is More Than… conference, which also features several other relevant talks.
